Less Professional Bio
My writing journey began almost as soon as I learned to hold a pen, though writing for fun faded to nonexistence through my high school and college years. But God hadn’t forgotten about that facet of His plan for me, and about a decade ago, the writing bug bit me in a big way. This journey has busted me out of my comfort zone and stretched my faith in ways I’d never imagined.
Yes, I really am a professional cellist. I have two cello performance degrees, I've taught both privately and at the college level, and I love playing everything from Beethoven symphonies to Bach solo suites to improvised worship music with a praise band. Music is the purest form of communication, and it frequently expresses what words cannot.
The loves of my life are my laid-back, infinitely supportive, and always hilarious husband and our three adorable and entertaining children, known online (and offline, come to think of it), as the Wenlets. We have two Minecraft-obsessed boys and a unicorn-crazy girl, all of whom were born within four years of each other. At this precise moment, they've made it to that sweet spot where they're all potty-trained and sleeping through the night, but nobody is a surly teenager. Yet. Motherhood has surprised me in a thousand ways, from how little I enjoyed it at first to how much I love it now.
Here at the House of Wen, we are die-hard New England Patriots fans. In fact, the Pats are part of how my husband and I got together. True story. Despite growing up in the Midwest, I’ve rooted for the Patriots my whole life, and my husband’s a native of the Boston area, so it’s in his DNA. We met at a watch party for the Boston Red Sox, and it was at a Patriots game in 2003 that he and I started to figure out there might be more to us than just friendship.
I watch more TV than I should, but I justify it by gleaning inspiration for characters. Current favorites are This Is Us, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, and Fresh Off The Boat (my Chinese-American hubby swears this show spied on his family in the mid-90s).
Other random tidbits:
I love cooking; hate cleaning.
I am not crafty at all. Whatever the opposite of a Pinterest Mommy is, I am that.
I have lived my entire life in various Midwestern states, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I love the down-to-earth people, the crazy weather, and the gorgeous sunsets.
